(ORANGE COUNTY) - As the days get warmer, the construction on Orange County Roads will be picking up speed.
Orange County Sheriff Department Public Information Officer Bill Fullington says not only will there be construction delays but speeds will be reduced in those areas and Orange County officers will be increasing patrols in the construction areas.
"We expect to see a 35 mph speed limit in place on Ind. 37 between Orleans and Paoli," says Sheriff Richard Dixon. "We will be actively enforcing that construction speed limit. We also expect to see a significant increase in traffic on the county roads near the construction area due to people trying to avoid construction. The speed limit on all Orange County Roads is 40 mph unless posted even lower."
Dixon will have extra deputies patrolling county roads enforcing speed limits.
"My goal is to have a safe year while this construction is happening," Dixon says. "We have been out on these roads making traffic stops and informing drivers about the speed limits. At some point in the near future, in order to ensure public safety we will begin ticketing those driver who choose to exceed the speed limit."
Dixon urges all drivers to use caution when approaching the construction zones. Vehicles may be slowed or stopped in the roadway and workers may be in or around the roadways.
"At times, the delays may be frustrating," he added. "However, if everyone will be patient and cautious we will have a safe 2013 in Orange County."
