(ODON) - The Odon Dollar General Store is appealing a local and state decision not to allow the store to sell alcohol and residents are ready to defend the decision.
The state Alcohol and Tobacco Commission's judge will hear arguments at 1:30 p.m. today on Dollar General's appeal to allow alcohol in its Odon store. The hearing will be held in front of a judge in Indianapolis.
In October of last year, the Daviess County Alcohol Beverage Commission denied the store one of the two local permits. In November, the state commission upheld the local ruling. Dollar General is now appealing the decision.
Residents who were at last year's hearing are ready to travel to Indianapolis against the store's wishes to sell beer and wine. Residents that are against the store's desire to sell alcoholic beverages have collected 660 signatures and over 30 letters of support from northern Daviess County residents.
Transportation will be available for those who want to attend the hearing in Indianapolis. Those who wish for a ride need to be at the Odon United Methodist Church, 602 E. Elnora St., by 10:20 a.m. A sack lunch and a photo ID are required. Water will be provided.
