Motorcross Kicks Off Today In Linton

Last updated on Saturday, April 13, 2013

(LINTON) - The Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce will host its first motocross event of the year this weekend.

Sabrina Westfall, of the Greene County Daily World reports, the race will be at Linton's Conservation Club, with the practice time being Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday will be race day, with registration starting at 7 a.m., practice at 9 a.m. and races will begin at 11 a.m.

The Saturday practice price is $15 for riders, and it is $25 for first-class riders on Sunday, with $20 for each additional class.

Chamber Executive Director Lynette Shelton said the conditions are good for the first race of the year.

"The track is prepped. We got some rain last night and maybe some more rain coming, so the conditions are fantastic for riding," Shelton said.

The gate fee for Sunday is $4 for children under 10-years-old, with children under 5 for free. The cost is $7 for adults.

The Linton-Stockton junior class will be doing concessions at the race. There will be light concessions on Saturday, and full concessions during the race Sunday.

Shelton noted there will be a new event during the race intermission this year.

"The National Guard is going to be there with a booth, and they are going to have Sumo Wrestler costumes they are bringing. Four people will be drawn at random and they will get to run part of the track in the sumo outfits (on Sunday). They actually do it at SuperCross and it's really fun," Shelton said.

She said the Chamber hopes to continue to expand the race and events.

"We are trying to have something a little bit unique at each race this year," Shelton noted.

In addition to the race and events, there will be a fundraising 50/50 drawing hosted by Linton Cycle Sales to raise money for the parents of rider Pierce Jackson, Ann and Brian Jackson.

"Brian has been diagnosed with acute Leukemia. We are trying to raise funds to help with travel expenses," Vera Eichhorst explained.

The Chamber of Commerce sponsored events benefit several local projects including the Linton Freedom Festival and the Linton Parks Department.

Shelton noted in addition to funds provided to the Parks Department, there was $266 donated to the Linton A.M. Risher Pool.

"Any independent practice profits are donated to the non-profit of the choice of Scott and Dane Eichhorst," Shelton said.

The dates for the 2013 races are scheduled for this weekend with a rain date of April 20-21; May 18-19 with a rain date of June 1-2; Sept. 21-22 with a rain date of Oct. 5-6; and Oct. 19-20 with a rain date of Nov. 2-3.

For more information about the race and weather information contact Linton Cycle Sales at 847-2043, Scott Eichhorst at 847-7862 or the Chamber at 847-4846.
