Last updated on Monday, April 29, 2013

(LOOGOOTEE) - A Loogootee man was arrested after police were called to investigate an accident with a possible person injured Saturday afternoon and he refused to cooperate with police.

According to Indiana State Police Trooper Jarrod Lents, the driver of the silver Ford Focus had left the scene of an accident in the 8600 block of Progress School Road where they had damaged a concrete wall along the roadway. A short time later they received the report of the injury accident at State Road 550 and Able Hill Road.

Trooper Jarrod Lents and Martin County Deputy Keith Keller found the Ford Focus off the roadway, down an embankment and up against a utility pole. The driver 47-year-old John P. Kendall, of Loogootee, was still in the car and was being checked for injuries by the fire department's first responders.

Trooper Lents noticed several alcohol containers in the vehicle and because of Kendall's behavior he believed Kendall was intoxicated.

After being treated for his injuries, police asked Kendall to get out of the vehicle but he refused and closed and locked his doors. Kendall continued to not cooperate with police and police had to break out a window on the car. Even after breaking out the window Kendall still was resisting the officers and Deputy Keller used his Taser in an attempt to control Kendall. But Kendall continued to resist officers. A fireman on scene assisted Lents and Keller and the three of them were able to get Kendall out of the car and placed in handcuffs.

While conducting a search of Kendall, police found several pills in his pockets.

Kendall was taken to the Martin County Jail where he was given a blood alcohol test. He tested.24 percent.

Further investigation into the pills revealed Kendall was in possession of Hydrocodone, a Schedule III controlled substance, Levetiracetam and Peroxetine, both legend drugs.

Kendall was charged with possession of a schedule III control substance, a Class B felony, possession of a legend drug, a Class D felony, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.
