(BLOOMFIELD) - July selection began Tuesday morning in Greene Circuit Court for the trial of a former Bloomfield man accused of rape, a class B felony.

Anna Rochelle of the Greene County Daily World reports that Thomas E. Squibb, Jr. was taken into custody in March 2012 by Indiana State Police Trooper Eric Nash after a warrant was issued for Squibb's arrest.

An incident involving Squibb and a female victim allegedly occurred on Nov. 13, 2011 at a residence on Ore Branch Rd. in rural Bloomfield.

Squibb is accused of raping the woman following an evening of drinking alcoholic beverages at the home where Squibb resided.

After the incident, the victim is alleged to have walked to a nearby home where she waited for her boyfriend to pick her up. She later went to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for an examination and evidence collection.

Trooper Nash then obtained a search warrant to gather DNA evidence from Squibb, who was 43 years old at the time of the incident.

In a probable cause affidavit prepared by Nash, he reported receiving a certification of analysis from the ISP Lab that found Squibb's semen was a match to evidence collected from the victim during the forensic sexual assault examination at the hospital.

"In the absence of an identical twin, Thomas Squibb, Jr. is the source of the DNA to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty. The evidence indicates that Thomas Squibb had unprotected sexual intercourse with the victim," Nash wrote in the affidavit.

After the alleged assault and his release from jail on bond, Squibb moved from Greene County to Bloomington. Currently, court records indicate Squibb lives in Evansville.

The trial is expected to last two days.
