Last updated on Wednesday, April 24, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University will dedicate its new supercomputer, Big Red II, at 2 p.m. Friday. Offering unmatched speed, Big Red II will be the fastest university-owned supercomputer in the nation.

The computer is capable of operating at a peak rate of one petaFLOPS, or one thousand trillion floating-point operations per second -- 25 times faster than the university's original Big Red supercomputer, acquired in 2006.

IU President Michael A. McRobbie will lead the ceremony. Brad Wheeler, vice president for information technology and chief information officer, and Paul Messina, director of science for Argonne Leadership Computing Facility, will offer additional remarks.
