(ORLEANS) - Organizers of the Orange County Music and Heritage Reunion are lining up musical groups to perform on June 7-8 in downtown Orleans.
A number of familiar local groups, plus some who are new to the event, will bring their acoustic ballads, old tunes and some bluegrass to the event's stages.
The music runs from 6-10 p.m. on June 7 and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on June 8. The musicians volunteer their talents as entertainment for the audience and to keep the tradition of acoustic traditional music alive and well, reports Bob Turner, one of the festival's organizers.
The heritage side of the event on Saturday, during daylight hours after 9 a.m., focuses on two segments of the county. One is the history, families and events of the hamlet of Orangeville. The other looks at the area that went under water after the dam gates closed in February 1972, forever altering the course of the Patoka River to create the second largest reservoir in the state.
Former residents of Newton Stewart and others who lived along the river's valleys are encouraged to contact Judith Burton at drjudithb@aol.com to support this exhibit with stories and memorabilia.
The planning team is putting out a call for additional help.
