Four Arrested On Drug Charges, Four Children Taken From Home

Last updated on Saturday, April 6, 2013

(SALEM) - Easter morning held no sweet surprises from the Easter Bunny at a Salem home where four children were removed and four adults were arrested on drug-related charges.

Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports that members of the Washington County Drug Team served a search warrant very early Easter morning at 5879 E. State Road 56 where they say methamphetamine was being manufactured.

Numerous felony drug charges were filed on two, Jessica Naugle, 36, Salem, and Daniel Crady, 32, Salem. The other two, Tamara Huddleston, 22, Brownstown, and Samiel Crady, 32, Pekin, face charges related to the four small children.

A member of the drug team described the condition of the home as "poor, very poor. There was no carpet, plywood floor in the living room."

The children ranged in age from 6 months to 3 years.

Drug abuse "has an effect on everyone around; the kids are hurt more by it than the adults," said the drug team member. "The adults don't realize what they're doing.

"They are obsessed with the drug, they don't realize what they're doing to their kids."

A drug team spokesman said when the warrant was served they encountered three people outside. Two were not arrested. One man was and the others were inside.

Officers found precursors, indicating meth was being manufactured, and in a burn pile outside discovered battery hulls and tubing, items used in manufacturing the highly-addictive drug.

Arrested were:

Jessica Naugle, charged with aiding the manufacturing of meth, a Class B felony; two counts of neglect of a dependent, Class C felony; possession of meth, D felony; possession of chemical agents, D felony; possession of paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor; maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony.

Daniel Crady, charged with manufacturing meth, B felony; possession of meth, D felony; possession of chemical agents, D felony.

Tamara Huddleston, neglect of a dependent, C felony; visiting a common nuisance, B misdemeanor.

Samiel Crady, neglect of a dependent, C felony; visiting a common nuisance, B misdemeanor.

The four appeared in Washington Superior Court Monday afternoon and are being held at the Washington County Detention Center.

The children were released to family members Sunday morning. Child Protective Services is involved.
