(UNDATED) - The National Weather service says that very significant flooding is occurring along the West Fork from Worthington to Hazelton, with crests the highest since June of 2008.

The Weather Service says the West Fork will crest at Newberry at 22.4 feet this evening and a crest of just below 24 feet is expected at Edwardsport, Tuesday afternoon.

While flood Warnings also continue for the East Fork of the White River with an expected crest of 22.7 feet at Petersburg early Thursday, the Weather Service says flooding along the East Fork will be minor.

Roger Axe, emergency manager for Greene County took the picture below of the White River at Elliston, just west of Bloomfield. This was taken as the river crested Monday at 10 am. he crest was 27'5".

The bridge is the Indiana Railroad Bridge," Axe says, "If you will notice the stone pylons supporting the bridge are almost covered. In 2008 they were covered."

Vincennes can expect the Wabash to crest of 27 feet on Saturday. Flood crest will be close to the major flood levels of 2005 and 2008 from Terre Haute to Vincennes.

Anyone needing sandbags in Knox County can be picked them up at the county highway department just outside of Vincennes on Old 67.

Knox County EMA Director John Streeter says residents and businesses that are in the effected area were notified of the flood threat on Sunday via the CodeRed emergency notification system.

Another threat that comes with flood waters is motorist safety.

Officials say to use extreme caution when in a flooded area-- and never--ever drive into flood waters-- instead-- as the saying goes you're encouraged to "turn around-- don't drown"

INDOT says the following area highways are closed by high water this morning:

State Road 358 west of Plainville; State Road 58 west of Elnora;

State Road 48 from State Road 157 to State Road 59:

State Road 157 is closed from State Road 54 to State Road 67

State Road 43 is closed from State Road 54 to State Road 48.
