Fire Destorys Pole Barn On Salem Road

Last updated on Wednesday, April 3, 2013

(HELTONVILLE) - A fire Wednesday afternoon burned a large area of field and destroyed a pole barn at 1627 Salem Road.

When firefighters from Pleasant Run, Shawswick and Guthrie Volunteer Fire Departments arrived the pole barn was engulfed in flames.

Nolan says the pole barn and field are owned by Jay Fox.

"The call came in as a woods fire and when we pulled in the woods, field and the pole barn was engulfed in flames," says Pleasant Run VFD Chief Steve Nolan. "The guys were using a cutting torch and cutting steel when they caught the field on fire, It then spread to the woods and the pole barn. Everything was engulfed in flames when we arrived."

Nolan says the conditions for burning or doing activities like these men is not good.

"It is just too dry and we recommend not doing any burning or activities like this now," Nolan added.
