Eva Ensler To Speak At IU April 25

Last updated on Sunday, April 7, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - IU Auditorium is proud to partner with the IU Department of Theatre and Drama to present author, activist, and Tony Award-winning playwright Eve Ensler as part of the Ralph L. Collins Memorial Lecture Series.

The event is free and begins at 7 pm.

Ms. Ensler, a playwright, artist, and women's rights advocate, is the author of The Vagina Monologues - an international sensation which has been translated into over 48 languages and performed in over 140 countries, including sold-out runs at Off-Broadway's Westside Theater, London's West End, Mexico City, and Paris.

As an activist, Eve Ensler has devoted her life to stopping violence - envisioning a planet in which women and girls will be free to thrive, rather than merely survive.

Her experience performing The Vagina Monologues inspired her to create V-Day, a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls, which raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of her award-winning play The Vagina Monologues and other artistic works. V-Day's newest campaign, One Billion Rising, launched in February 2012 and culminated in a day of action on V-Day's 15th anniversary, February 14th, 2013, when V-Day activists all over the world took to the streets to "strike, dance, and rise" to end violence against women and girls. To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $90 million and educated millions.

This lecture will speak not only to her experience as a playwright, but will discuss her unique and influential journey to use her art and her words to advocate for real change in the lives of women world-wide.

Audience members of the April 25 lecture will also have the exclusive opportunity to purchase her newest book, In the Body of the World, before it is released to the general public, as well as meet Ms. Ensler for an exclusive signing opportunity.
