East Oolitic Fire Destroys Vacant Mobile Home

Last updated on Tuesday, April 2, 2013

(EAST OOLITIC) - An early morning fire destroyed a single-wide home this morning on Murdock Station Road.

The home located at 45 Murdock Station Road and was vacant.

According to Donnie Davis, who lives on Meridian Road, there was a loud explosion and then the fire. Meridian Road is two road west from where the trailer is located.

"I was getting ready to go see about a job when I heard the explosion," Davis says. "It was a really loud. There are rumors that someone might have had a meth lab inside the house. The firefighters will know more when they get inside, when the smoke clears and the fire is out."

Davis says the home has been vacant for several years.

Volunteer firefighters from Oolitic, Marshall and Shawswick fire departments were called to the scene just after 6 am.

When firefighters arrived they found the trailer engulfed in flames and smoke bellowing into the sky.

There was no power to the home.

Firefighters were still on the scene when this story went to print.

The cause of the fire and who owns the trailer is still under investigation.
