(BLOOMFIELD) - A warrant was issued Wednesday for the arrest of a Dugger man accused of strangulation and battery on a woman during a domestic disturbance in Linton.

Anna Rochelle of the Greene County Daily World reports that Terry C. Collins allegedly went to the residence of an ex-girlfriend in Linton last week and became angry when she told him to leave due to his behavior.

When Linton Police Officer Chad Crynes arrived at her apartment on NE 7th St. around 7 p.m. on April 10, he reported that she said she did not want Collins there, he had been drinking and he had a warrant out for his arrest.

The woman said Collins had become violent, had grabbed her by the hair, pulled her to the floor, placed his hands around her neck and started choking her. She said she had difficulty breathing when she was being choked. She also said she had been slapped in the face and punched in the arms and legs. She said she was able to pull away and ran to a neighbor's residence to call police.

In the probable cause affidavit prepared by Officer Crynes, he stated there were four young children had witnessed the incident -- they were present in the living room where the altercation took place.

The officer reported he saw marks on the woman's neck consistent with strangulation, fresh bruising on a forearm and upper arm and redness on a shin.

Crynes attempted to locate Collins that evening but was unsuccessful. Then around 10 p.m., he was contacted by an Indiana State Police trooper who said he had located Collins in Dugger and was transporting him to the Sullivan County Jail.

Crynes went to Sullivan to speak with Collins -- he told Crynes the woman had started slapping him so he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her to the ground so she would stop hitting him.

When Collins is transported to Greene County and appears in Greene Circuit Court for an initial hearing, he is expected to be charged with strangulation, a class D felony, and domestic battery in the presence of a minor, also a class D felony.
