Last updated on Sunday, April 7, 2013

(ELNORA) - The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the discovery of a burned out car in a northern Daviess County pasture Wednesday morning.

Around 8 a.m. Daviess County dispatch received a call reporting a burned out vehicle in a pasture on County Road 1400 North.

Police say the vehicle appeared to have been eastbound on 1400 N when it drove into a yard, struck a fence, went through a pasture, and slid sideways into a tree.

The vehicle was then set on fire and abandoned. Police say due to the fire damage it was impossible to get plate or vehicle identification numbers at the scene.

Damage to the car, fence and property was estimated at $10,000.

Then at 2 a.m. Wednesday, William Byrer, of Elnora called the Sheriff's Department and reported his black 2001 KIA Spectra had been stolen.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
