Last updated on Wednesday, April 24, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Coroner Rob Herr presented the commissioners and county council with a fee schedule for the new morgue.

The fees will be charged to organizations using the morgue from other counties.

Out of county facilities would be charged a $250 facility fee. If they have to enter the facility after business hours there will an additional $25 fee.

If the out of county facility uses the facility for more than three days, on the fourth they will be charged an initial $450 cold storage fee and for each additional day a $250 fee.

Herr says any ancillary costs will be added to the total amount due regarding cold storage fees.

If the morgue is used by an out of county facility for tissue procurement they will be charged a $350 facility fee. If they enter after business hours there will be a $25 fee.

Tissue procurement is for those individuals who have life plans or are organ donors, Herr says.

"There are many organs that can still be donated even if the person was not able to be put on life support," Herr says. "Eyes, tissue, bone and heart valves are just a few. I am very excited about the possibilities of this and being able to offer this service.Granting the final wish, that even in death another can be helped or saved."

Those fees will then be used to pay the salaries of those who have to be at the morgue when an out of county facility is using it and the cleaning of the facility.

Those fees are listed below:
Salary from the out of county fees
$50 Facilitator
$50 Clean-up
$25 After hours entry

Salary from tissue procurement organizations:
$200 Site manager
$50 Facilitator
$50 Clean-up
$25 After hours entry

Herr says the fees will add money to the general fund.
Out of county facilities will contribute $150 per case and tissue procurement $50 per case.
