(FREDERICKSBURG) - A convicted murderer was recently found to be in possession of a gun and drugs and was arrested.
55-year-old Curtis Myrick, 55, of Fredericksburg, is charged with possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of marijuana.
Myrick posted a $22,000 full cash bond and was released the day of his arrest on the gun charges.
According to court documents, the Washington County Sheriff's Department was contacted by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms that agents had received information that Myrick was in possession of a handgun.
Detective Brent Miller accompanied the two agents as they visited Myrick's home. When asked about the gun Myrick says he had a black powder pistol.
However, Indiana law prohibits convicted felons from having even black powder pistols. Detective Mills says violent felons are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
When a search warrant was executed, officers found eight firearms, numerous rounds of ammunition and a small marijuana growing operation.
Myrick has a murder conviction for strangulation and an attempted murder conviction for pointing a loaded gun at an officer. Both occurred in late 1979 in Jefferson County, Kentucky. He was sentenced to 22 years in Kentucky State Prison and was released Dec. 5, 1995.
