Car Show Today On The Bedford Courthouse Square

Last updated on Saturday, April 27, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Parks Department, Super Oldies 105.5 WQRK and Auto Zone seventh annual car show will take place on the Lawrence County Courthouse Square from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

The entry fee is $10 per car; pre-registration is not required, on-site registration will begin at 10 a.m. Judging will begin at noon.

Recreation Director Gary Dorsett is hoping to attract around 150 vehicle. The top 30 entries will be recognized. Special awards will go to Best of Show, Mayor's Choice, Park Departments Choice and Super Oldies Choice.

The show drew record crowds to Thornton Park in years past. Vintage cars, trucks and roadsters filled much of the parking lot behind John Lowery Pool.

This year the show shifts to a new venue. City leaders, determined to revitalize the downtown hub, decided to stage the event on the courthouse square.

Dorsett says there will be music, food, and lots of fantastic door prizes and a 50/50 draw.

More than 60 vintage vehicles were on display last year when Josh Minks claimed the People's Choice with his 1968 Chevelle. Charles Dorsett's 1957 Chevy Belair won Parks Department's Choice, Dean Tackett's 1932 Chevy Coup claimed Mayor's Choice, and a 1968 Camaro owned by Pete Beyers won Super Oldies Choice.

Cathy Chapman's 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL convertible, Steve Tyree's 1959 Dodge Coronet 500, and Carey Deckard's 1967 Camaro claimed some of the top prizes.

Dorsett says if auto owners have not signed up yet, they can simply show up across from the Stone Pig Smokehouse this morning at 10. The entry fee is $10, and the show begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m.

Large inflatables will be set up on the courthouse lawn for children.

The Stone Pig and Stone Cutters Cafe & Roastery are offering special menu items, and Dorsett says local auto dealers plan to showcase their newest models along J Street.
