Bone Appetit Tickets On Sale

Last updated on Wednesday, April 24, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The White River Humane Society is counting on animal lovers to step up and help by purchasing a ticket to Saturday’s Bone Appetit annual dinner and auction.

So far, Jamie Wires, Shelter director, says ticket sales are down.

The event will be held at the Lawrence County Expo Hall at the fairground.

Doors open and silent auction begins at 5 p.m. Saturday. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., with the live auction kicking off at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 each or a table of eight for $160 and are available at Copy Trolley, Spring Mill Veterinary Service, Bedford Veterinary Medical Centre and WRHS and board members.

Last year 350 tickets were sold, but this year ticket sales so far are around 210.
The annual dinner raises about $20,000 for the care of homeless pets. Local businesses donate items for the silent and live auctions.

Tickets are $20 for the night, which includes dinner from Carla's Catering and a cash bar.

"The Bone is very important. It goes into the general fund to buy the things we need on a daily basis," said Buddy Hendricks, WRHS board president says proceeds from the fundraiser goes into the shelter's general fun to buy things the animals need on a daily basis.

And Hendricks says running the shelter can be a challenge, because the animal population continues to increase unchecked.

When there are more animals to care for, there are more expenses, Wire says.
Without community support and fundraisers the shelter would have to increase their adoption fees, something they don't want to do.

A successful Bone Appetit, donations and community donations, is one way the shelter can keep adoption fees steady.

Some of the auction items that diners can bid on include: a three-day stay in a Nashville, Tenn., condo, Holiday World and Indianapolis Children's Museum tickets and a basketball signed by the BNL girls state champion basketball team.

Services include oil changes, movie passes, pizzas, hair salon and spa services and pet products donated by local veterinarians and groomers.
