(ORLEANS) - 2013 Orleans Dogwood Festival Parade Chairman Randy Clark has announced that entries are now being accepted for the 45th Annual Dogwood Parade set for Saturday, May 4, beginning 12 noon (new start time) down historic downtown Orleans.

The parade is a main attraction of the week-long festival and draws a large crowd each year.

This year's Grand Marshal will be longtime Orleans businessman and hometown barber Elmo Wolfe.

Entry forms are available on-line www.orleansdogwoodfestival.com and also may be found inside the Dogwood Souvenir Program, The Orleans Progress Examiner newsper or picked up from the Orleans Town Offices, Orleans Public Library. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Trophies will be awarded to floats, bands, walking units, antique cars, classic auto, equestrian and other categories.

The Parade will assemble as in years past at the Orleans Jr.-Sr. High School, located on the north edge of town, beginning at 11 a.m. with judging of units beginning shortly thereafter.

The Parade will begin promptly at noon. with the posting of the colors and patriotic ceremony which opens the annual parade. It is slated to travel south on SR 37 (Maple St), past the reviewing stand downtown, turn west on Jackson, then north on Fourth Street, returning to the high school area. Parking will be prohibited along the Parade route after Noon on May 4.

"In Spring, Dogwoods Beckon Us Home" is the theme of this year's festival and parade participants are asked whenever possible to carry out that theme with their entries.

The Orleans Police, and volunteers from Orleans Fire and Orange County Sheriff departments will join in the effort to keep the streets clear. Parents are urged to assist the workers by advising their children to stay safe when collecting candy etc. distributed during the parade.
