(BLOMFIELD) - Charlotta L. Preece, 30, Bloomfield, is accused of trafficking at the Greene County Jail.
Anna Rochelle, of the Greene County Daily World reports, during an initial hearing Thursday in Greene Superior Court, she was charged with a class C felony.
A warrant for her arrest was issued Monday but she wasn't hard to find -- she was already in jail on another charge.
Preece now has three cases pending, the trafficking case, another recent case involving an alleged theft, and in an earlier case from last year, a petition to revoke her probation has been filed.
After the petition to revoke was filed last week, Preece was informed of the petition when she was in court on another case. A warrant was issued for her arrest so Preece agreed to turn herself in to the Greene County Sheriff's Department following the hearing.
Preece did report to the jail and was booked in, but a jail officer reported that she seemed to be under the influence of some type of controlled substance and was suspected of having drugs hidden on or in her body.
Sheriff's Detective George Dallaire began to investigate and interviewed Preece. She allegedly admitted that she had several Xanax (Alprazolam) pills and an electronic cigarette hidden inside her body when she was booked in. At the time of the interview she had them in her underwear.
Alprazolam is a Schedule IV controlled substance.
Preece was also arrested on March 12 by Patrolman Nick Yingling of the Linton Police Department after he was dispatched to the Linton WalMart store.
A loss prevention officer for the store told Yingling he had observed Preece placing items inside her purse so employees stopped her and called police.
The officer transported Preece to the police department for an interview then placed her under arrest and transported her to the Greene County Jail.
Preece allegedly was in possession of several personal and pharmacy items valued at $36.74 with tax.
She's been charged with theft, a class D felony.
After that case was filed, the petition revoke was filed in the case dating back to June 2012. Preece was initially charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, and two misdemeanor counts - driving while suspended and possession of paraphernalia.
It had been decided in November. Under the terms of a negotiated plea agreement, the felony was dismissed, the possession count was dismissed and Preece admitted guilt on the count of driving while suspended.
She was sentenced to 180 days in the county jail, given credit for nine days served and the balance of 162 days was suspended, but the latest arrest would have violated standard terms of probation.
