Taxpayers in Washington County have two options for receiving their 2013 property tax statements - through their e-mail account or through the postal service. Washington County is among the first in Indiana to e-mail tax bills.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved electronic property tax billing on March 3, 2011, and will be using SRI Taxpayer+Connection to deliver electronic tax statements for a second year.

Electronic property tax bills save the county money by eliminating paper, postage and other printing and handling costs for taxpayers who elect the option. All property owners have the option of receiving their property tax billing statement by e-mail, even if the tax bill is paid through an escrow account by their mortgage company.

"Taxpayers have told us they want us to be more efficient and this is a big step in that direction," Treasurer Bob Woodward said. "By electing to receive their bills through e-mail, taxpayers will help save the county money, time, and resources that we can dedicate to other things."

Electronic property tax bills will be available for the May 2013 billing, should taxpayers choose to review and pay their bills online.

Taxpayers who wish to receive their property tax bill by e-mail can sign up at www.sri-taxpayerconnection.com. The program is voluntary.
