Two Paoli Students Win At Regional Science Fair

(PAOLI) - Two students from Paoli High School competed in the annual South Central Indiana Regional Science Fair at Ivy Tech College on March 2.

Jordan Cadle, a junior, and Rachel Cadle, a freshman, made the Science Research Team and secured trips to the Indiana State Science fair on April 6.

Students from six counties, in grades 6-12, competed.

They won several awards and were recognized in both the Abstract Writing Category and the Display Board Category. Jordan was recognized by Purdue University for the Best Agriculture Related Project and for the best use of the metric system.

His project was to investigate the potential of diluted dairy cow's milk's ability to increase yield when applied to wheat plants. The results of this study along with last year's study are promising and may lead to a sustainable method to increase wheat yield. This project won first place in the Plant Sciences Division.

Rachel researched the effects of different colors of plasticulture mulch on tomato plant production for her project. She was awarded first place in the Environmental Sciences Division and the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award.

On March 7-8, Jordan competed in the Indiana Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at St. Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute. This competition accepts 24 students from the state to present research to a panel of judges and peers.

He won third place and was invited to compete at the National Science and Humanities Symposium in Dayton, Ohio, From May 1-5.
