Last updated on Wednesday, March 13, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Bedford’s Shane Dorsett is among five finalists for mega lotto payoff. He is a finalist for the Hoosier Lottery’s $1,000,000 Second-Chance Drawing.

Bob Bridge, of the Times-Mail reports he credits his win to his father William "Hobo" Dorsett.

Just before his father passed away, he asked Shane to carry on the family tradition and play his lucky numbers. He has never missed a week playing the numbers.

Dorsett owns and operates D&S Excavating, he and his wife Shannon have two daughters, 12-year-old Brianna and 11-year-old Jasmyn.

Dorsett won an immediate $500, plus expenses to cover accommodations and travel to Indianapolis for the drawing Friday.

Dorsett has spent more than a month contemplating how to spend the million if his name is drawn. A graduate of Mitchell High School, Dorsett was injured in an auto collision when he was 11. After years of coping with the injured limb, Dorsett opted to have a portion of the leg amputated in January. It was his 54th surgery on the leg. He is on crutches while awaiting an artificial limb.

If he wins some of the earning will be used to pay medical bills insurance doesn't cover. If he wins that will be great, if not he is still $500 richer.
