(SALEM) - A Domino's Pizza delivery car was found abandoned in Blue River last Friday and police say the man driving it - who was working at the time - was intoxicated.

Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports that officers responded to a call from the restaurant shortly after 9:30 p.m. reporting a delivery driver's car had been stolen and driven into a creek. Officers were told the incident occurred off of Maloney Street, near Martinsburg Road.

Officer Michael Voelz said in his report, when he arrived, he began searching for the vehicle, which he located about 300 feet beyond the end of Maloney Street in the east fork of the Blue River. He said vehicle tracks in the algae on the bottom of the creek bed were followed approximately a quarter mile downstream to the point where the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle, a red 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, left the road about 75 feet from the intersection of Martinsburg Road and Old State Road 60 East. The car was not registered to Anderson, but to another person at the same address.

Officer Joey Wheeler was assisting and had located the driver, Timmy L. Anderson, 53, 494 S. West Washington School Rd., Salem.

Anderson told police he was messing with his cell phone and lost control of the vehicle. He said he continued driving upstream once he entered the water, searching for a way out of the creek bed.

Anderson was transported to St. Vincent Salem Hospital for a BAC test. He registered .19, more than twice Indiana's legal limit of .08.

Anderson was arrested on charges of OWI .15 or above, OWI, leaving the scene of an accident and false informing.
