(ORLEANS) - Orleans Town Clerk Robert F. Henderson reports that the town’s historical collection has recently received a number of new and interesting items in conjunction with plans for the town’s Bicentennial in 2015.
Henderson said items donated will become a part of a special permanent and rotating display of historic items at the town hall all relating to the daily life of Orleans down through its 200 years of history.
"We remain hopeful that others in the community will come forward as we move closer towards our Bicentennial celebration wishing to ensure as well that our town's historic artifacts are preserved for future generations," he said.
Henderson said some items still being sought for the collection include any type of film, old period photographs, letters, vintage postcards, books, newspapers and clippings, interesting documents, items related to the early families or individuals, obits, advertising items from old time businesses, Monon, the war years, community leaders, schools, churches, civic groups, political items, fire and police links, post office, old period phone books or town directories, any type of interesting of interesting artifacts with a link to the town's history.
Donated items will become property of the town's historic collection and will be properly catalogued, exhibited or conserved, if needed. Old photos can be scanned with the original returned to the owner.

Related Orleans 2015 projects being considered or underway include a special photographic book, a featured documentary relating the Orleans story, a community fundraiser to restore the town's vintage and rare original 1926 fire truck, and the Centennial of the Orleans Public Library.
