Last updated on Monday, March 25, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - One man died after two cars collided head-on Saturday morning the 6600 block of West Ind. 45.

Monroe County's coroner has identified the man killed as 88-year-old John Gaus, of Bloomington.

Gaus died of blunt-force trauma to the head and chest, according to Nicole Meyer, the county's coroner. Emergency crews were called to the crash scene in the 6600 block of West Ind. 45 slightly before 8 a.m. Saturday.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Mike Pershing says police are still investigating the head-on crash.

According to Preshing, 50-year-old Bradford Freeman, of Jasper, was driving a white, Toyota, four-door car in the eastbound lane at the time of the accident. The second four-door passenger car was in the westbound lane. Van Buren Township Fire Chief Dave Stewart say fighters cut the doors off both cars and their seatbelts to free the drivers.

Freeman was transported by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital with broken bones in both of his wrists, an ankle, ribs and sternum.
