(BLOOMINGTON) - Learn to identify forest wildflowers during a special program with the Monroe Lake naturalist, April 7, at Paynetown State Recreation area.
The program runs from 2 to 4 p.m. It will be a general primer on flower identification techniques and terms, with focused instruction on recognizing five species from the "spring ephemeral" category of wildflowers. Weather permitting, the second half of this training will be conducted outside.
The program is part of Monroe Lake's Citizen Scientist program. Citizen Scientist is an element of Monroe Lake's volunteer program in which the public collects information on plant and animal populations to help the property make resource management decisions.
Volunteers trained at the April 7 program will then participate in a wildflower survey of Monroe Lake property between April 8 and May 11, searching for and documenting the locations of the five selected species.
