(SALEM) - A man whom police say shot at his neighbor’s home changed his mind as his jury trial began Tuesday in Washington Circuit Court and decided to plead guilty.
Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports that Jeffrey Fleenor, 54, entered a plea agreement on a Class B felony charge of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, which was the state's lead charge, said Prosecutor Dustin Houchin.
Fleenor is a convicted violent felon and thus prohibited from owning a firearm.
His agreed sentence is for 20 years with none suspended, said Houchin.
"It's a satisfactory way to end that case," he said. "We get a guaranteed sentence, with no appeal, it's a strong sentence. We're very happy things went that way."
In the November incident, police say they were called to a Kays Chapel Road residence with a complaint from the homeowners that their neighbor had shot at their home multiple times. At least one of the bullets entered the dwelling.
The neighbors described Fleenor's actions toward them as "volatile" and the woman said she always looked outside to see if Fleenor was present before she left her home.
Fleenor has a prior conviction for battery with a deadly weapon, a Class C felony.
