(INDIANAPOLIS) - Linton-Stockton senior Austin Karazsia was named the Trester Mental Attitude Award winner for Class 2A boys basketball.
The Greene County Daily World reports that Karazsia, who ranks sixth in his senior class and is currently the president of the National Honor Society at Linton-Stockton, scored 29 points and had 10 rebounds as the Miners lost to Bowman Academy 86-73 in the Class 2A State Championship game here Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
"Austin has worked really hard over the past 13 years in both athletics and academics," said Charlie Karazsia, Austin's dad and Miner athletic director. The thing that I am most proud of is his character.
The award is presented annually to a senior participant in the state finals who best demonstrates mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability.
The award is named after the first commissioner of the IHSAA who served from 1929 to 1944.
Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, the IHSAA's corporate sponsor, presented a $1,000 scholarship to Linton-Stockton High School in the name of Austin Karazsia.
"It is great to win it, but I could not have done it without my teammates," Austin said.
Grant McBride of Bloomfield (Class A, 1998) and Union's Clark Golish (Class A, 2000) are other local players to have won the Mental Attitude Award in boys basketball.
