Linton Woman Arrested After Stealing Gas From Service Station

Last updated on Saturday, March 16, 2013

(LINTON) - A 38-year-old Linton woman, accused of the theft of gasoline from a Linton station, had months to pay up and avoid a criminal charge, but she allegedly failed to pay the bill.

Anna Rochelle, of the Greene County Daily World reports, Janamarie Belle Bodine was arrested Tuesday.

According to Linton Police Officer Jason Wilson Bodine did not pay for her fuel on October 23, 2012 at the Fast Point Gas Station in Linton.

The station's surveillance cameras showed Bodine fueling a green car, and showed Bodine entering the station. The station clerk told police that Bodine claimed she had left her wallet at home but she would return in 30 minutes to pay for the fuel -- a total of $16.01.

On Oct. 25, Bodine had not returned and the manager called police.

Officer Wilson contacted Bodine on Jan. 12. And Bodine told him she remembered the incident and said she didn't pay for the fuel cause she didn't have a ride back to the gas station.

She also claimed she had since paid $18 to the station but the station managers said she did not.

On Jan. 28, a case was filed against Bodine in Greene Circuit Court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Then on Tuesday when Officer Wilson was on regular patrol around 1:50 a.m., he saw two children out looking for a small animal. He spoke to them, asked them where they lived and who was responsible for them - Bodine.

When the officer went to the home he arrested Bodine and took her to the Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. But she was also being held in lieu of an additional $500 cash on a Writ of Attachment in a separate civil case.

When Bodine appears in court for an initial hearing on March 20, she will be charged with theft, a class D felony.
