Fire At Vacant Jasonville Home Under Investigation

Last updated on Thursday, March 14, 2013

(JASONVILLE) - The Greene County Daily World reports, a vacant Jasonville house sustained extensive structural fire damage on Monday in a blaze that remains under investigation.

Jasonville Fire Chief Justin Disney says the fire at 419 North Meridian St. was reported about 1 p.m. and about 15 firefighters from three area volunteer departments - Jasonville, Wright Township and Lewis Township - battled the fire until about 2:45 p.m.

Jasonville Fire Department was called out again about 1 a.m. Tuesday to douse some 'hot spots', according to Disney.

A field investigator with the Indiana State Fire Marshal's office was on the scene Tuesday morning in a effort to determine a cause.

"It appears to have been vacant for a while. We're not sure exactly how long, but it was vacant at the time. There were no personal effects inside," the fire chief said.

Disney said all utilities to the one-story wood frame house had been disconnected.

"That's actually the reason why we are having it investigated (by the fire marshal) to try and determine an exact cause on it," Disney said.

Fire officials had not determined the owner of the vacant house, as of Tuesday morning.
