(CRANE) - Donald Schulte,of Bloomfield, who retired earlier this month as NSWC Crane Director of Engagement, will take over as executive director of the WestGate Technology Park on April 1.
The Greene County Daily World reports, his employment was approved in a meeting of the WestGate Authority conducted at the WestGate Academy near Crane Village.
Schulte's career at NSWC Crane spanned 36 years, during which he held multiple positions that included Director of the Electronic Development Department, Director of the Ordnance Engineering Department, and Director of the Acquisition and Extended Enterprise Department.
As the Director of Engagement, Schulte leveraged opportunities to build relationships external to the fence line with government, industry, academia and the communities.
He noted that his focus will be on ensuring that WestGate strategically matches the opportunities that being immediately next to NSWC Crane brings.
Schulte, who is 55, said that he also plans to work directly with existing tenants currently within WestGate to maximize their southern Indiana operations.
WestGate currently has more than 12 major defense-related contractors working in more than a quarter of a million square feet of new construction.
Schulte said the nearby I-69 holds great promise for the future.
Schulte will succeed Greg Jones, executive director of the Southern Indiana Development Commission, who has been serving as interim director of the park since late 2012.
Schulte holds a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and a Masters in Public and Environmental Management from Indiana University. He is plank holder of the Midwest Section of the American Society of Naval Engineers; a member of the Federal Manager's Association, Association of Old Crows, Federally Employed Women, Sagamore of the Wabash and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Greene County Economic Development Corporation and the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce.
He resides in Bloomfield with his wife, Susie who is a school teacher in the Bloomfield school district. They have a son Kurt that attends Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and a daughter Kari, who is a senior in high school.
