Claims Of Prize Money From Publisher's Clearinghouse Is Scam

Last updated on Tuesday, March 12, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Several Lawrence County resident received calls this weekend claiming they had won $5,000 from Publisher’s Clearinghouse.

However those calls are scams.

The callers reported they were told they had won $5,000 but to claim the money he wanted them to go to Wal-Mart and purchase a Green Dot pre-paid credit card and put $750 on the card.

One call originated from this number (876) 340-7304.

Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig warns all residents not to ever give banking or personal information or to pay out cash for an alleged prize. He says callers asking for that information are attempting to scam residents.

"I hate to say it, but normally if it is too good to be true then most of the time it is," Craig added.

Anyone receiving calls are asked to report the incident to police.
