UPDATED:Campbellsburg Woman Arrested After Police Pursuit

(BROWNSTOWN) - Police found a safe thought to have been stolen in Seymour after a chase ended in a wreck and the arrest of a Washington County woman over the weekend.

Christy M. Clayton, 27, Campbellsburg, remained in the Jackson County Jail on Sunday in lieu of $1,005 bond. She was booked into jail at 11:45p.m. Friday.

Jackson County Sheriff's Department arrested Clayton on charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs, possession of stolen property, battery on a police officer and possession of a hypodermic needle.

According to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Reserve Deputy Michael Grelle attempted to stop a vehicle headed westbound on Highway 50 East which had fled a traffic stop at 7p.m. Friday, March 1.

The pursuit continued to North Base Road and then onto County Road 75 North. At that point, according to the press release, Brownstown police officer Mitch Ray joined the pursuit.

On 75 North, Clayton's vehicle pulled into a yard, turned around and began driving directly toward Grelle's patrol car, according to the press release. Grelle stopped his vehicle and narrowly missed colliding with Clayton.

Clayton's vehicle then pulled back onto the road and headed west. The pursuit ended when Clayton lost control of her vehicle in the 5200 block of North Base Road and went into a ditch.

According to the press release, Clayton exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a field. Deputy Jesse Hutchinson and Deputy Dustin Stewart, both of whom had been assisting in the pursuit, apprehended Clayton.
