Bloomington/Monroe County MPO To Hold Public Workshops For New Transportation Plan

Last updated on Saturday, March 16, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington/Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization (BMCMPO) is hosting two public workshops to gather input for the 2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).

Members of the public are invited to share their thoughts and ideas on what the city's and county's transportation network should look like in 2035.

"This is a great opportunity for local residents to have a voice in the community's transportation future," said BMCMPO Director Josh Desmond. "We hope people will come out to join us for this important conversation."

The first workshop will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, March 18 at the Monroe County Public Library, 303 E. Kirkwood Ave., room 1B. The second workshop will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at the Ellettsville Fire Station, 5080 W. State Road 46.

The MTP provides a long-range vision of the community's transportation system and is used as a guide for investing federal transportation funds into the BMCMPO's jurisdiction, which includes Bloomington, Ellettsville and parts of Monroe County. The MTP is updated every five years to reflect the evolving transportation needs and priorities of the community. An extensive public outreach process is being pursued that will involve planners, businesses, community organizations and residents throughout Bloomington and Monroe County.

Along with the workshops, the public is asked to participate in an anonymous online Household Travel Survey. The survey will document the community's travel patterns, and collected data will be used to formulate a travel model that assists the MPO in predicting future needs. The survey can be found online at http://bloomington.in.gov/travelsurvey.
