Last updated on Tuesday, March 5, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington Arts Commission will host a drop-in workshop for its 2013 Arts Project Grant Program.

The workshop will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 in the Hooker Conference Room at City Hall, 401 N. Morton St. Attendees are encouraged to come with questions and bring their draft applications for review by Commission members. The drop-in workshop will be conducted on a first come, first served basis. Current guidelines and applications can be found on the Commission's webpage at www.bloomington.in.gov/bac. The deadline for grant applications is April 1.

The Arts Project Grant Program is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. In 2012, grants supported 23 projects. This workshop will also help the Arts Commission achieve its current goals, which include: cultivating a community in which residents appreciate the value of personal and collaborative artistic activity; encouraging diversification of artistic activities and artists; enhancing and supporting a high level of artistry; and supporting the economic vitality and interests of local artists and arts organizations.

According to the 2012 Americans for the Arts study, Bloomington's nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the local economy annually through direct spending by arts organizations and their audiences. For more information on the study visit www.bloomington.in.gov/arts.

For more information on the grant program, contact Assistant Economic Development Director for the Arts Miah Michaelsen at michaelm@bloomington.in.gov or at 349-3534.
