Used Musical Instruments Wanted

Last updated on Tuesday, February 12, 2013

(LINTON) - City of Linton Clerk-Treasurer Jack Shelton and the Linton Fire Department have teamed up to sponsor the “Share Music of the Heart” drive.

Shelton says the idea surfaced to collect used instruments came when Roy Clark, a Country Music Hall of Famer, was last in town a few years ago.

Sabrina Westfall of the Greene County Daily World reports that Clark is collecting band instruments and he is having them refurbished and distributed to students who would not be able to otherwise afford the instruments.

He hopes to be able to take "enough instruments to fill up his truck" to Clark to donate. Shelton says the suggested instruments are band instruments, including clarinets, flutes, trumpets, trombones and other instruments associated with a band.

Although, he added, some donations can be outside the normal realm of band instruments if someone feels it could be put to good use.

In order to help spread the word, the Linton Fire Department has started an additional promotion.

They will be promoting "Share Music of the Heart" through February in coordination with this month being American Heart Month.

Linton Fire Department Chief Brad Sparks says their involvement in the program is a way to give back to two positive sources for the city.

If interested in donating instruments, they can be dropped off to Shelton at the Linton City Hall. For more information contact Shelton at 847-7014.

Donations can also be made at the Linton Fire Department by contacting Sparks at 847-4413 to coordinate a drop-off time.
