(BEDFORD) - Stone Cutters Café & Roastery has been chosen to receive the EDGE Award given by the Indiana Small Business Development Center.

The reception and ceremony will take place February 6, in the rotunda of the Indiana State House. Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann will be presenting owners Laura Anderson and Ruth DeWell with this prestigious award.

The EDGE, or Economic Growth and Development through Entrepreneurship, Awards are broken up into two groups: Emerging and Established businesses. Stone Cutters has been selected under the Emerging Business category.

"Having only been opened since June, we are incredibly honored to be receiving this award," said Anderson. "We are really blessed everyday by our amazing customers and hope that we can reciprocate those blessings back to them."

Stone Cutters Café & Roastery located at 919 15th Street on the square, is essentially three businesses in one. Ruth DeWell and Laura Anderson collectively run the café which features interesting and tasty lunch and breakfast options as well as fresh roasted coffee and espresso drinks.

"Our main goal was to bring a sense of pride to Bedford. This city has such a rich history and amazing people, and we really wanted to bring that to the forefront. We did this by exhibiting historical photos, and our featured local artist wall that continually rotates work by local artists," said Anderson, "Bedford can even boast its very own coffee company now!"

DeWell is starting to create a stir in the catering side of the business. Stone Cutters Catering has been known to do everything from Beef Bourguignon to handmade sushi platters and goat cheese and olive stuffed chicken breasts. DeWell is the master behind Stone Cutters' unique and delicious food offerings.

Anderson on the other hand has created Stone Cutters Coffee and can often be seen roasting in the front window of the shop. Along with the fresh roasted options available in the café, Anderson specializes in private label coffee for businesses and non for profit organizations. Clients can come in and participate in a private tasting to develop a blend specifically for their company or organization. Stone Cutters then produces and labels it exclusively for them to use as marketing or for fundraising.

Anderson has roasted for clients such as Radius Indiana, Good Sports, Oullette and Associates, Fine Print and ServPro among many others.
