(BLOOMINGTON) - “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives.”
And these bills will now have the stamp of approval of Rep. Todd Young, R-9th District.
Young announced last week he would serve on two Ways and Means subcommittees.
He will serve on the subcommittees on Select Revenue and Human Revenue, according to a press release. Young is the only representative from Indiana serving on Ways and Means subcommittees.
"I'm excited to play a role in these very important subcommittees this Congress," Young said in a press release. "These subcommittees deal with issues that affect the everyday lives of so many Hoosiers, and I'm honored to be in a position to influence policy in a positive way for our constituents."
The House Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest committee in Congress, according to the committee's website. It is the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. Eight presidents and eight vice presidents have served on Ways and Means, as have 21 speakers of the House of Representatives and four justices of the Supreme Court.
The Committee has six subcommittees for the following areas: health, human resources, oversight, select revenue, social security and trade.
The Select Revenue subcommittee holds jurisdiction for various revenue-generating measures.
The Human Resources subcommittee rules on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Unemployment Insurance, Supplemental Security Income, Child Support Enforcement, the Social Services Block Grant and various welfare programs, including
foster care and adoption assistance.
