Band Boosters Mattress Sale At Washington High School Saturday

Last updated on Saturday, February 2, 2013

(WASHINGTON) — A Washingon High School hallway will turn into something it has never been before Saturday - a giant mattress showroom.

The Washington High School Band Boosters are trying something new for a fundraiser this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The band boosters, like most student organizations, have relied on fundraisers for many items. The WHS club has held some of the more unsual fundraisers, such as hosting the Harlem Wizards in the Hatchet House the past couple years.

But a mattress sale?

According to a Google search, mattress sales have been good fundraisers for high schools throughout the Southeast. The trend has been so popular, it has spread through the Midwest.

Band Booster parent Ken Showalter said the idea came from an out-of-state retailer who called and wanted to host one here. The boosters said no to that retailer, but wanted to give the idea a try.

The club connected with a local retailer, who gave the school discounts on all types of mattresses at 40 percent off retail price. Some of the mattresses include pillow top, orthopedic and memory foam mattresses in all sizes. The mattresses are brand new and are made in Indiana.

Those who want more savings need to find a WHS band member. Band members have coupons for an additional $50 off a mattress purchase.

The "showroom" will be in the WHS hallway off Gate 6. Orders will be taken for later delivery.

Saturday's sale is the start of the fund-raising season for the band boosters as the Harlem Wizards will return in April and "Drive One" for the band will also take place at Bill Dobson Ford.
