Man Found Guilty Of Murdering Girlfriend

Last updated on Thursday, February 28, 2013

(VALPARAISO) - Jurors returned a guilty verdict Tuesday in the murder trial of a 20-year-old arrested at an IU tailgate.

Dustin McCowan, of Union Township in Porter County, was arrested by Indiana University Police in September 2011.

McCowan was convicted by a jury of shooting his 19-year-old girlfriend, Amanda Bach, in the throat at close range that severed her spine, according to Porter County Coroner.

He then dumped her body by the Canadian National Railroad tracks less than 300 feet from his home.

He was 18 at the time of the incident and is the son of a Crown Point police officer.

Prosecutors say the bullet in her body matches the ammunition in McCowan's father's gun which is still missing.
