(LINTON) - A 32-year-old Linton man wound up in front of a judge this week on a drug charge after he allegedly tried to purchase a controlled substance, arranging the transaction through text messages -- to a Linton police officer.

Anna Rochelle of the Greene County Daily World reports that Timothy Wade Robinson was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, during an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court.

On Feb. 7, someone inadvertently contacted the wrong person through a text message, asking to purchase Vicodin pills.

The person who received the text promptly reported the text to the police department and an officer returned a message.

According to a police report, the officer asked the sender what he needed and the reply came back that he was looking for something - "vics" which is a slang term for Vicodin, a brand name of hydrocodone, a Schedule II controlled substance.

The sender wanted "8 or so" pills, agreed on a price and arranged a meeting in a parking lot behind Linton Glass Company on the corner of W. Vincennes St. and 1st St. SW, but said he'd first have to go to the ATM machine.

At the arranged time, Linton Police Officer Paul Clark and Worthington Police Officer Randy Raney were waiting in the parking lot and saw a man, later identified as Robinson, walk to the ATM across the road, make an ATM transaction, then walk to the parking lot while sending another text message, to an officer.

Robinson was taken into custody then booked into the Greene County Jail. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

Officers ran a check on his identification and found he was also wanted on a warrant for contempt of court in a civil case.
