(BEDFORD) - Jasmine Singh, a 7th grader at Shawswick Middle School, is the 39th Annual WBIW Spelling Bee Champion.
Singh will represent Lawrence County at the regional spelling bee in Louisville, Ky. in March. Today's final round had 6 contestants representing Lawrence County.
Jasmine competed for ten rounds to finally out spell the runner up, 8th grader Delaney Chowning, of Mitchell Jr. High.
She correctly spelled 'indictment' and 'syncopation' to finally be determined the Grand Champion.

Singh is the daughter of Dr. Pratap and Archana Singh.
"It was shocked I won. It was stressful and I was nervous," Jasmine says. "I was going up against 8th graders, it was intimidating, but there were all really nice."
Jasmine practiced hours everyday.
"Now I will have to practice even harder to get ready for the Louisville competition," she added. "My little sister Awesha, really helped me practice. She would quiz me on the words. I will really have to concentrate and calm down and work 10 times harder for the next competition."
Jasmine who also competed locally in the MATHCOUNTS Competition placing fourth in individual score and advance to the state. But now she faces a dilemma. She must pick which competition to attend.
"They both are on the same day, at the same time," Archana says. "The math competition is at Purdue and the spelling bee is in Louisville."
Jasmine believes she will compete in the spelling bee competition.
Placing third in the spelling bee was Geoffrey Livingston, an 8th grader at Bedford Middle School; fourth to Christan Anderson a fifth grader at Dollens Elementary, fifth place went to Cody Martin a 8th grader at Oolitic Middle School and sixth place to Hadley Hawkins, a 7th grader at St. Vincent De Paul.
Jasmine would like to thank her family and all her friends and teachers at Shawswick Middle School for their support.
"I couldn't have done it without them," Jasmine added. "Mrs. Horner and Mrs. Messmore were so supportive and are the best teachers in the world."
