(BROWNSTOWN) - Jackson County commissioners are exploring the idea of severing ties with a local animal shelter and establishing a shelter on county-owned property east of Brownstown.

Jason Fee, a consulting engineer with Janssen & Spaans Engineering Inc., Columbus, talked about the issue with county commissioners during their meeting last week.

He presented commissioners with an estimated cost of $275,000 for a building that could house 100 dogs or more.

"That's the real high end," Fee said of the estimated cost.

Fee, a Jackson County resident, is working with an animal control committee that includes Sheriff Michael Carothers, Debbie Hackman, commissioners' President Jerry Hounshel, county council member Brian Thompson, a local veterinarian, Ron Harrison, and Seymour Mayor Craig Luedeman.
