Last updated on Sunday, February 17, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University has chosen India as the site for the university’s first international gateway office.

School officials said Tuesday that a reception marking the center's opening will be held Feb. 27 in the New Delhi suburb of Gurgaon.

The Indiana University Gateway-India will serve as a home base for IU activities in India and will share a building with the American Institute of Indian Studies.

IU officials say the new office will support scholarly research and teaching, international study and distance learning, business partnerships and alumni events.

IU President Michael A. McRobbie says the new office "will be the first of many such international gateways." He says the Indian office will allow IU to "accelerate academic activities and partnerships in this increasingly important area of the world."
