Highway Crews Clean Up Human Waste

Last updated on Wednesday, February 27, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes says his crews had to clean up human waste after someone took large containers containing the waste and dumped them along Old U.S. 50 and Swifty Lane.

Holmes says more than 100 containers filled with urine and human waste were thrown along the roadway and many of them busted open.

Highway crews cleaned up the mess, but Holmes is appalled someone would do this.

Anyone with information on who dumped the containers is asked to contact the highway garage or the sheriff's department.

"This was ridiculous," Holmes says. "It saddens me that someone would do this. They have no pride in our community. I have to apologize to my crews for them having to deal with something like this."

Commissioner Bill Spreen was notified about the incident and went to the scene.

"I don't know if they didn't have a septic system or why someone would do something like this," Spreen added. "But people need to keep their eyes open and call police when they see someone dumping stuff along our county roads. Get a description of the vehicle and a license plate number and call police."
