Cause Of Seymour Fire Under Investigation

Last updated on Thursday, February 28, 2013

(SEYMOUR) - The cause of a fire that broke out Tuesday in a downtown Seymour building that houses at least two businesses remains under investigation.

No one was injured in that fire at 115 W. Tipton St. that was reported about 11 a.m. Tuesday.

"It looks like it started in the attic area on the north side of the building," Fire Chief Brad Lucas said of the fire that forced police to close Tipton Street between Broadway and Chestnut streets for more than two hours.

Traffic was detoured on downtown streets until Tipton reopened shortly after 1 p.m.

Mark John, a certified public accountant, occupied a portion of the building while a second part was occupied by attorney John Rothring. The two men own the building and recently leased the rear portion of it to the Jackson County Community Corrections program.
