Last updated on Friday, February 1, 2013

(BROWNSTOWN) - Students at Brownstown High School were named Maverick Challenge winners Wednesday.

The challenge was sponsored by the Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation. Students had to submit a business plan and came up with Jelly and Toast, an electronics company.

Brownstown High School business teacher, Emil Newberry and junior Laken Johnson were team members for the challenge. Senior MorganTabor used her actual business, Pink Brave, a candle company, and placed first out of 21 participants. Seven finalists from Jackson County will now go to the regional competition Saturday, March 2, in Columbus.
