Bedford Still Within Budget On Snow Removal

Last updated on Monday, February 25, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Street Department started this year with a budget of $133,000 to clear the streets of snow and ice, according to Dennis Grogan, assistant street commissioner.

That's about average compared to previous years, he said.

So far, the department has spent less than a quarter of that total cleaning up from recent snowfalls.

Of the $133,000, $24,941, or 18.75 percent, has been spent on salt. Another $2,143, or 1.6 percent, has been spent on sand to mix with the salt.

Additionally, $2,143 has been spent on employees working overtime to keep the roads safe during holidays, nights and Sundays.

According to Grogan, these amounts, and the amount the department has spent on everything else for clearing the roads, are "pretty much on budget."
