Bedford Public Library Showcases Children In Need Of Adoption

Last updated on Monday, February 11, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Public Library is displaying six portraits of children in need of adoption.

The exhibit is provided by the Indiana Heart Gallery, said Mary Hall, assistant library director.

The display will continue through Feb. 16. It can be viewed during normal library hours.
"We like to be a community information source, and we like to partner with organizations," Hall said.

Each portrait has small postcards with the same photo and contact information for adoption services.

The Heart Gallery makes stops throughout Indiana, Hall said, and officials there contacted the Bedford library about hosting a display.

The Indiana Department of Child Services uses the Heart Gallery to raise awareness for foster care children in need of permanent homes.

About 1,100 children in Indiana - and more than 100,000 nationwide - are waiting to be adopted, according to a DCS report. It is estimated that 20,000 of those children will leave foster care this year without adoptive families.
